Sleight of Hand

Change coils around me
Like a spring
Corkscrewing around my spine
And I feel so uncertain
Of how it might
Restrict or release me
From the grips of
Former lover’s lips
Tides shift
With the fierceness
Of gusty winds
That take my breath away
And pull the rug
From beneath
My unsuspecting feet
The illusiveness of solid ground
Has fooled me once again
Whenever will I learn
To stop this fervent race
Against the inevitable
Acceptance will bloom out of me
Like jasmine in the night
Expelling its fragrance
Asserting its will
Unapologetically,
Demanding to be acknowledged.
